Thirty-two-year-old female, 5ft 1", size 10, looking for... oh wait, this isn't the Internet Dating web site!

I began my career in 1992 at Serif, a small software house in Nottingham. I worked my way up until I was handling the company's PR and exhibitions, including demonstrating the software, which cured me for life of any fear of public speaking. Having A Levels in Business Studies, French and Spanish I also worked with the French customers, doing sales, technical support and localisation of the software, documentation and advertising.

After a move to the Home Counties in January of 1995 I continued to work in the IT industry, creating marketing materials, booking advertising and by 1996, making tentative forays into building web sites.

After a redundancy in June of 1996 and the impromptu arrival of my six-year-old stepson to live permanently with his father and me, I set up my own web design company from home. I ran the company until 2002 before eventually selling it in 2005.

I've always wanted to be a writer. Aged six when I asked I would say that I wanted to be a journalist, and my mother always said that she couldn't see me doing a typical 9 to 5 job. I don't know if it was due to having my stories criticized at school or believing that writing wasn't a real career but I buried my desire to write publicly, while in private always keeping a journal. I was the kind of person that said 'I'll write a book one day'.

Once a year or so, I had an idea for a book. I'd be excited, but after writing two words that I would declare as total rubbish, I would shelve the idea and forget about writing once more. I moved back to the Midlands in 2003 with my family.

After learning much about the writing process and why having a desire to write makes a person a writer - my thanks to the books of Julia Cameron and Natalie Goldberg for these revelations - I began to make writing a focus in my life late in 2005. Publishing the occasional article in a public forum cured me of my fear of having others read my work which helped me, early in 2006, to begin work on a non-fiction book that had been taking shape in my head for a year. See my writing page for more details on the book.

I continue to work from home. My mother was right; I haven't worked in an office now for over ten years. I write and I do book keeping and web sites from time to time. I now live alone in the National Forest area of North West Leicestershire with my six-year-old daughter Kiera.
